What does Mindfulness mean?
“The National Science Foundation published an article summarizing research on human thoughts per day. It was found that the average person has about 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day. Of those thousands of thoughts, 80% were negative, and 95% were exactly the same repetitive thoughts as the day before.”
These constant thoughts and repetitive patterns take up our attention, energy, and time, preventing us from being present and enjoying life.
Mindfulness means finding ways to step out of our thoughts and be present. There are various meditation and mindfulness practices out there, and you’re likely familiar with many. Here, let’s explore a fresh perspective on them.
Just like an artificial intelligence system goes through training before doing tasks, our minds also have a training phase to form patterns. In the learning phase, our minds create new thoughts. This process is akin to mindfulness, where we’re not stuck in old thoughts but actively shaping new ones.
Mindfulness is simply creating new paths and connections in your mind. In childhood, our minds are empty, and we’re always in a learning phase, practicing mindfulness. However, as we grow up, our minds fill with thoughts and patterns, and we often rely on old patterns to tackle life tasks.
As adults practicing mindfulness, we must let go of unhelpful learning and retrain our minds with fresh experiences. Approaching tasks, whether new or old, with a new perspective, is the training phase for our minds, a form of mindfulness.
I realized that effective mindfulness involves training our minds with aligned data, not just any new information. Our heart can be the guide to an authentic and aligned experience. By connecting with our hearts and following inner wisdom, we optimize the relearning phase of our minds with aligned information, moving towards our higher self.
